Becker Marine Systems is one of the proud sponsores of the International Paper Boat contest, held annually by the Chair of Ship Design at the University of Rostock.

The goal of the contest is to design and construct a paper boat with maximum deadweight. Certain constraints to the design have to be met. The winner of the 12th contest held in 2008, the paper boat "Willi" belonging to Gabriele Lüdtke, carried an astonishing weight of 5,132 g at a design weight of only 9.7 g and has yet to be surpassed. .
